Dr. Padmanabhan “P” Anandan, PhD
Dr. Padmanabhan “P” Anandan and Dr. Hanna, IPRD Solution’s CEO and CTO, performed ground-breaking research together and deployed numerous real-world systems for over 7 years while they were both at SRI International, Sarnoff. Anandan is the CEO of Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence, an independent not-for-profit research institute focused on developing AI-based applications for social good. He was formerly vice president for research at Adobe Systems and prior to that a distinguished scientist and managing director of Microsoft Research. He was managing director at Microsoft Research India, which he founded in January 2005 in Bangalore. He joined Microsoft Research in Redmond, Washington in 1997, where he founded and built the Interactive Visual Media group. He was also previously a professor of Computer Science at Yale University.
Dr. John Halamka, MD
Dr. Halamka has been an advisor to IPRD Solutions since its inception. He currently serves as President of Mayo Clinic Platform and has an outstanding track record of success in innovation and value creation.
Most recently, Dr. Halamka was executive director of the Health Technology Exploration Center for Beth Israel Lahey Health in Massachusetts. Previously, he was chief information officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for more than 20 years. He also was the International Healthcare Innovation Professor at Harvard Medical School. He remains chairman of New England Healthcare Exchange Network Inc. and is a practicing emergency medicine physician. As the leader for innovation at Beth Israel Lahey Health, Dr. Halamka oversaw digital health relationships with industry, academia and government worldwide. As a Harvard Medical School professor, he served the George W. Bush administration, the Obama administration and governments around the world planning their health care information (IT) strategies. In his role at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dr. Halamka was responsible for all clinical, financial, administrative and academic IT.
Dr. Halamka completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University, where he received a degree in medical microbiology and a degree in public policy with a focus on technology issues. He received his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco, and simultaneously pursued graduate work in bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on technology issues in medicine. He completed his residency at Harbor — UCLA Medical Center in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He runs Unity Farm in Sherborn, Massachusetts, and is the caretaker for 250 animals, 30 acres of agricultural production, and a cidery and winery.
Dr. Rakesh “Teddy” Kumar, PhD
Dr. Rakesh “Teddy” Kumar, Ph.D., is Vice President, Information and Computing Sciences and Director of the Center for Vision Technologies at SRI International. Dr. Kumar and Dr. Hanna, IPRD Solutions’ CEO and CTO, worked together for over 14 years, pioneering and deploying numerous AI-based solutions for Government and commercial clients. In his current role at SRI International Dr. Kumar is responsible for leading research and development of innovative end-to-end vision solutions from image capture to situational understanding that translate into real-world applications such as robotics, intelligence extraction and human computer interaction.
Dr. Kumar has served on NSF review and DARPA ISAT panels. He has also been an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. He has co-authored more than 60 research publications, and received more than 50 patents. His research has enabled a number of spin-off companies and his ability to bring lab-born research to support real-world applications, provides guidance, ensuring IPRD’s innovation is connected with human impact.
Dr. Kumar received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1992. His M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering is from State University of New York at Buffalo in 1995, and his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering is from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India in 1983.
Dr. Willem Daniel Francois Venter, MD FCP
Dr. Willem Daniel Francois Venter, MD, FCP has advised IPRD Solutions for over 3 years. He is the Deputy Executive Director of the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute at the University of the Witwatersrand. He leads multiple antiretroviral treatment optimization studies and has an active interest in public sector access to HIV services. He is currently working on new first and second line antiretroviral options, patient linkage to care interventions, and self-testing projects. Previously, he led large PEPFAR-funded HIV programmes in South Africa, including one that focused on truckers and sex workers. He has been represented on South African and regional guidelines for over a decade, having done almost all his training within South Africa.
His major research currently focuses on low dose stavudine, low dose darunavir in second line treatment, and combinations of newer drugs to improve the resistance and potency of first line, as well as using patient information to drive improved linkage to care after diagnosis.
